The Cloud
You've probably heard it said that the world has gotten smaller. This is true because, since the development of the Internet (the 'Cloud') and such things as Tweeting, texting, instant messaging, social networking (Facebook, Instagram), we've grown much closer. The distance between us, geographically, doesn't matter near as much anymore.
In many ways, this is a good thing. But, in some ways - not so much. While the world has grown closer together, we're also closer to those people who would try to hurt us or take advantage of us. Most people are good - but it's easier than ever for those that aren't to target people who aren't prepared, or aware of the dangers.
So, you've just met a student who has NEVER been on the internet. Their family just moved to the area, and just signed up for internet access at home for the first time. Knowing what you know right now, what would you warn that person about? What would you tell them to be careful of, when they're on the Web? How would you tell them to behave - what precautions should they take?
You don't have to look this up - base it on what you already know - what you've already learned. You CAN research a little on the internet if you need to...

Don't believe everything you see on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you never know who is on the other side of the screen, so you don't know who is reading or looking at what you put out there.
DeleteYou're absolutely right Brooke! People may pretend to be a completely different person when hiding behind a computer or smartphone screen. Sometimes they may do it to catfish others or gain someone's trust in order to hurt them! You must always be careful!
DeleteSomeone can steal your personal business.
ReplyDeletei agree with that cause they could use your personal information to buy stuff for free online.
DeleteI'll tell them to make sure they got a good password because there's hackers out there on the cloud. I'll also tell them not to trust anyone that they talk too while on the web, then i'll say make sure your password is strong, don't tell anyone any personal information.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you must have a strong password with some capitals or numbers instead of letter to make it harder for anyone else who isn't to get into it. Also save your passwords to somewhere so you wont get locked out of any of your accounts.
DeleteI agree, you shouldnt trust stangers you talk to online, they could be dangerous.
DeleteSomeone who can steal you personal identity and will hack your account when they do that, they will hack all of your other accounts.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you mackenzie, tell someone your personal stuff you could get hacked
Deleteyou could tell them your personal information and they could hack into your phone and you would have to buy a new one.
DeleteI agree, don't go on sketchy websites otherwise it makes it easier for them. Don't share personal information with others either.
DeleteWhen on the internet you should be careful about talking to unknown people and trading personal information. Also if you are meeting someone that you met alone, be very careful, you never know who is actually behind the screen.
ReplyDeleteYes, great advice! You hear very often about someone who meets up with a stranger they met online and it ended up being someone totally different than who they thought they were talking to. Sometimes this ends up really bad with dangers such as assault, abduction, or even murder!
DeleteYou're right Brooke, you never know who you are truely talking to on the internet. You should always be cautious when giving out any personal information.
DeleteYes, I strongly agree with you Brooke. You should never put your personal information out onto the internet, and don't ever meet with someone that you met online alone. They could end up kidnapping you or something. The internet is a scary place.
DeleteI would tell them to be careful of sketchy websites and free WI-FI. Watch out for scams and be careful of what websites you give your credit card information to. Be careful of ads saying that they can give you money and stuff because they could also be scams. A scam is an attempt to obtain money or something else of value. So don't give out any personal information.
ReplyDeleteWhen on the internet, always keep your personal information private and keep your privacy settings on. Make sure you are using a secure internet connection and be careful what websites you are on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it is important to keep your accounts private because you never know who could be viewing your information.
DeleteI agree, you should not trust anyone with your private information, you never know what could happen.
DeleteI'd tell them to be very careful. I'd warn them that there are strangers on the internet who may be dangerous to talk to such as predators or hackers who may try to get their personal information. I'd also make sure to tell them to be cautious when using certain apps or downloading software.
ReplyDeleteI agree and if you don't know someone online do not talk to them or allow them to follow you on social medias . Download apps that you know well or read the description of the app before downloading .
DeleteWell said. I like how you mentioned downloading software because a lot of the time the virus is downloaded voluntarily and unknowingly.
DeleteAttachments can be very dangerous to open. They can lead to viruses infecting your computer. Make sure that you are on a secure site. If the attachment seems suspicious, don't open it.
ReplyDeleteShanaya is right, you could click on a link and all of a sudden your computer could be hacked and all your personal information could be stolen.
DeleteI would tell them to be careful of strangers because there is a lot of bad people on the internet, I would also tell them to not share your personal information with other people. Also, don't go on bad websites with viruses.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you shouldn't trust anyone you don't know, it is potentially dangerous.
DeleteYes, if you are going to meet someone in person that you have only met online, never meet them in person by yourself. Always go to meet them with a friend, parent, or guardian. They might not be the person they said they were in their profile. This can be dangerous and could lead to kidnapping and many other terrible things.
DeleteYou should be aware of identity theft and credit card fraud. Avoid giving out your personal information to sketchy websites or things that might be a scam. Also be aware of catfishing, people pretending to be someone they aren't. You think you're talking to someone your age, but in reality, it's a creepy 40 year old man in his mom's basement.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Talia, you should never trust anybody you don't actually know.
Deletethis is very true, people who creep are every where. You need to be very careful with what kind of websites you put your information into.
DeleteI would tell them not to go on risky websites because they could have a virus that could mess with your computer.
ReplyDeleteagreed, you gotta watch on what you clicking on the web
DeleteI'd tell them that the internet is one of the greatest tools of today. You have any amount of knowledge at your fingertips. Sometimes an ad can pop up on your computer. Be very cautious about clicking on them though. Sometimes the ad will disguise itself as part of he website, which can be dangerous so watch out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe, the internet is a great tool as long as you are careful and watch what websites and ads you click on. People will do anything to steal your money or to get the information they want .
DeleteWell said, I like how you look at it in a positive way as one of the best devices in the common world. You can do so many things that weren't possible in the past.
DeleteYou have to be careful of hackers and certain sites. Also be careful of strangers that you don't know and don't give away your formation away.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, you need a strong password and don't share your passwords with other people, if you share your passwords you are giving whoever you shared it with practically complete access to your account.
DeleteThe best option to be safe while on the internet would probably be to careful what you download. Try not to download apps that look suspicious or come from a site you don't trust.
ReplyDeleteI agree Cayden, when downloading apps (especially free ones) it can also download adware which forces you to watch ads that are unintended. These ads can then lead you to a harmful website.
DeleteI would tell them not to go on risky websites because they could have a virus that could mess with your computer.
ReplyDeleteYou got that right Smalls. Never go on risky websites, sometimes they can steal your identity just going on that website.
DeleteDon't forget that some safe websites may have ads that can trick you into going to those risky websites.
DeleteThere are lots of good of websites, so I mean the web is a good place to go it's not always bad.
Deletequestionable websites are everywhere and it may be hard to find that they are not safe. which isn't good. these kinds of websites could put viruses that can hack your computer. they can they get your personal info and use to to their advantage.
ReplyDeleteI agree Mackenzie that there is a lot of good websites but there is a lot of bad ones also that can hack your account.
ReplyDeleteDownloading apps that are free and everything could not be safe because they can end up putting viruses on your computer and people can hack your computer too.
